Nancy Beranbaum, previously Nancy Fuller Coates, lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City where she studied under Louise Bourgeois, Robert Mangold and Lucinda Childs. Her work is an ongoing reflection of her life experiences which include studying traditional Japanese brush painting in Togane-shi, Japan, dancing with the Lucinda Childs Dance Company, exploring textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, pursuing an avid interest in plant forms and horticulture, and raising three daughters. She is presently working in two dimensions—in gouache, oil and pastel. Her recent work is an amalgam of botanical forms layered in sheer muted tones, suggestive of dark thickets and mysterious organisms at play.
